Sofia Opera Ballet Premiere: Bayaderka

During Season 2012/2013 Sofia Opera Ballet offers a premiere performance of  LA BAYADÈRE. On October 19th, 7 p.m., for the first time on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet will be presented the entire original version of the ballet  by Ludwig Minkus.

The other performances of LA BAYADÈRE (meaning The Temple Dancer) will take place as follows: 20, 21 november, 2012, February 24, 2013 and March 9, 2013.

One of the most exciting masterpieces of the world-known Petipa, the three-act ballet, which was first presented to the world back in 1877, was inspired by the ancient Indian poet Kalidasa and the ballad of Goethe “Der Gott und die Bajadere”, written in 1797.

This popular ballet interweaves tragedy with poetry and the pursuit of happiness, love and freedom. The drama unfolds in ancient India. The story meets us with the passionate love of the temple dancer (bayadère) Nikiya towards the brave warrior Solor.

The choreography belongs to the “father of classical ballet,” Marius Petipa.
