Varna Opera: Open Air Performances 2013
From June 21 to August 22, 2013 Varna Opera Theatre has more than a dozen of exquisite musical delights in store for classical music lovers.
For the 4th consecutive year Varna summer will not only be warm and breezy, but also exquisite and glamorous. Throughout the summer season among the beautiful greenery of the Varna Open Air Theatre will take place three premieres, a Super Star Gala and several other must-see performances.

Opera at Varna Open Air Theatre 2013 Highlights:

World-famous opera talents gather in Varna
In 2013 the festival Varna in the Summer Theatre will meet opera music aficionados with the art of the popular Bulgarian opera singers Boyko Tsvetanov, Kamen Chanev Kaludi Kaludov, Ivan Momirov, Nadia Kristeva, Deyan Vachkov, Cyril Manolov and many others.
Opera in the Open Air Theatre is part of the events in the program of Varna as a candidate for European Capital of Culture in 2019. The event is also dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great composers Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner .
Under the open sky will perform the soloists with international careers from both Sofia Opera and Ballet Theatre and Varna State Opera: Angel Hristov, Petar Danailov, Arseniy Arsov, Kostadin Andreev, Svilen Nikolov, Plamen Dimitrov, Linka Stoyanova, Irina Zhekova Dimitrinka Raicheva Valery Georgiev, Ms. Vassileva, Silvia Angelova, Evgeni Stanimirov and others.
The 4th edition of one of the most gorgeous events in Bulgaria begins on June 21 with a premiere concert performance of Richard Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman”, conducted by Svetoslav Borisov, starring Apostol Milenkov (Austria) in the role of the Dutchman.
The premiere of “La Traviata“ will be the latest director’s interpretation of Kuzman Popov. Borislav Ivanov will conduct the opera and in the role of Violetta Valery the audience will have the opportunity to hear and watch the opera stars Irina Yordakesku (Romania) on July 8 and Angela Nissi (Italy) on July 11, 2013.
On July 16, under the baton of Stefano Segedoni from Italy, follows the premiere of Verdi’s last opera “Falstaff”. The main character will be recreated by the baritone Kiril Manolov.
Ivan Momirov (Italy) returns to his hometown to sing the emblematic for every tenor part of Don Jose in “Carmen” and of and Don Carlos in “Don Carlos . On July 3, the opera Carmen will be conducted by Francesco Lanzilota (Italy), and on July 18 the opera Don Carlos will be conducted by Svetoslav Borisov. The audience of the latter will also have the unique opportunity to hear the bass Deyan Vachkov who, according to the reviews, is the new Boris Christov.
The next good news from the program of the Summer Opera is the presence of Boyko Tsvetanov. He will perform as Manrico in “Il Trovatore” on July 24, and in Verdi’s “Requiem”, conducted by Vito Christoforo (Italy) on July 30. He will also partner on stage with the charismatic Nadia Kristeva (Austria)
Super star gala
The Super Star Gala is a unique musical event with popular songs from the works of Andrew Lloyd Webber “Cats,” “Joseph,” “Evita,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “Jesus Christ Super Star”.
After last year’s show “Hello, Broadway” that gathered a record number of visitors at the Open Air Theatre, musical theatre again will triumph. There will be two performances of the Super Star Gala – on August 3 and August 9, conducted by Yuli Damianov and directed by Svetozar Donev. The choreographer of the performance is Anna Doneva. Soloists in this Super Star Gala Concert will be: The rock Star Zvezdi from AHAT, Мarcho Apostolov, Alexandar Mutafchiyski, Оlga Mihaylova–Dinova, Linka Stoyanova, Daniela Dimova, Silvia Angelova, Svilen Nikolov, Irina Zhekova
Aida, The Merry Widow and The Barber of Seville
On August 13 the charming Ukrainian of Bulgarian origin Aida Shved will play the role of the eponymous heroine of the timeless opera “Aida”. The superb cast of soloists, conducted by Borislav Ivanov, includes Kamen Chanev (Austria) as Radames, Agunda Kulaeva (Russia) as Amneris, Plamen Dimitrov as Amonasro and Ivaylo Dzhurov as Ramfis.
The Summer music marathon will continue with two of the most well-received performances of the National Opera of Varna in recent years.
On August 17 Svetoslav Borisov will conduct the operetta “The Merry Widow” by Franz Lehar. In the operetta, staged by Mark Krone (Netherlands), will perform the soloist of NMBC Dobrina Ikonomova as Hannah Glavari and the soloist of the National Opera of Varna Valery Georgiev as Count Danilo Danilovic.
The largely popular opera “The Barber of Seville” by Gioacchino Rossini, will entertain the audience on August 19. The opera is directed by Antonio Petris (Italy) and will be conducted by the gifted Bulgarian conductor Grigor Palikarov. Svilen Nikolov will take the role of Figaro and Arseniy Arsov will play Count Almaviva. Ilina Mihailova will perform as Rosina and Dyan Vachkov will sing the role of Don Basilio.
Opera gala with two conductors
A glamorous event is to end with a glamorous final performance. On August 22 the closing event of Varna Opera in the Open Air Theatre will be a magnificent Opera Gala. It is directed by Kuzman Popov and will be conducted by two great conductors, maestro Borislav Ivanov and maestro Gregory Palikarov.
The last day of the 14 festival evenings will will include arias and ensembles from best known works of the two big composers Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner. In it, ed by the opera star Kaludi Kaludov, will perform Gabriela Georgieva, Mariya Derilova, Linka Stoyanova, Daniela Dimova, Eugene Stanimirov Svilen Nikolov Plamen Dimitrov Dimitrinka Raicheva Irina Zhekova and others. Mr. Kaludov, an honorary citizen of Varna city, will perform together with three other guest tenors of the fourth edition of the Opera in the Summer Theatre – Ivan Momirov Boyko Tsvetanov Kamen Chanev Kaludi Kaludov.
