Jiggs Whigham to play at Brazzobrazzie festival in Sofia
The king of trombone Jiggs Whigham will open the third edition of the lovely brass festival in Sofia – Brazzobrazzie. The 7 March live performance of the American virtuoso trombonist will be his first one in Bulgaria. Whigham is coming to Sofia, invited by Brass Association and the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
Born in 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio, Jiggs Whigham is a trombonist, composer, arranger, conductor, professor. He is a titled professor and head of the Jazz Department at Cologne University College of Music, Head of the Department for jazz and popular music in the college “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, a visiting professor at Gildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

The list of the musicians with whom he had performed and/or recorded over the last 50 years is endless. For his first appearance on Bulgarian stage (at Sofia Live Club), on March 7, 2014 (after 9 p.m.) Jiggs Whigham has prepared original compositions for big band, and also jazz standards arrangements. The program, in prof. Whigham words, will “ delight both the musicians and the audience .”
Brazzobrazzie, a festival dedicated to the beauty and excitement of brass music, will be held on 7th and 8th March in Sofia Live Club with the friendly support of the Irish whiskey Bushmills.
