WTA Tournament of Champions Sofia 2012


The qualified tennis players for the tennis championship WTA Sofia 2012, who have confirmed participation, are as follows:

The Organizing Committee of WTA Sofia 2012 has also announced the names of the two grous for the tournament, namely “Serdica” and “Sredets” (the old names of the Bulgarian capital Sofia).

There will be four players in each group. The leader of the groups will be the tennis player with the highest ranking in the world rankings. Caroline Wozniacki will be the leader of one of the groups, as she ranked 11th in the world rankings.

There is a great chance that Venus Williams, also participates in WTA SOFIA 2012, as she won the last tournament “International” series in Luxembourg.

WTA Tournament of Champions Sofia 2012

If you are lucky enough to be in Bulgaria in late September, you will have the great chance to get right in the middle of a world famous WTA Tournament of the Champions and watch world famous tennis players, competing for the prize money of $ 750 000.

From 2012 on, for three years in a row (2012, 2013, 2014), Sofia will turn into a central venue for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). The capital of Bulgaria will host one of the most the prestigious sports events worldwide. At the end of Semptember, and at the beginning of October more than 10 thousand tennis fans will gather in the newly built sports hall Arena Armeec where world famous tennis stars will show their class and style during the tournament.

According to the rules there will be a total of 8 players, meeting in 15 matches. Six of the players will qualify if they have won some International tennis event throughout the year, and two of the participant will qualify, given the so called wildcards. Wildcards are basically awarded to players, who have not qualified by winning a play.
In 2012 one of the wild cards will go to the great Bulgarian tenni player – Tzvetana Pironkova, who is also selected to be the ambassador of the event. The last Bulgarian tennis player who contested a WTA Championship was Magdalena Maleeva.

In 2013 the WTA Tournament will celebrate a  jubilee season for WTA and this will be the year when  everyone in Sofia will have the opportunity to watch live some of the biggest tennis stars.


•    Dates: October 30th – November 4th, 2012
•    Matches from the group stage will start at 4 pm.
•    There will be three matches per day
•    The semifinals begin at 5 p.m.
•    The final is on November 4th,from 6 p.m.

Single tickets prices vary from 8 to 20 leva. There are also premium tickets packages for all the tournament days from 40 to 100 Leva.
